Welcome to the Neuroinclusive Education Network (NEN)
The Autism Education Trust (AET) is now the Neuroinclusive Education Network (NEN), part of the National Autistic Society.
Why the change? Because education is changing.
Educators now support pupils with diverse profiles including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and Tourette Syndrome - often in combination. The NEN reflects this reality, bringing a broader perspective while retaining the trusted frameworks and principles that have shaped inclusive practice in England and Wales since 2007.
We are developing a wider commitment to leading on what ‘good neuroinclusive education’ looks like, recognising and celebrating the different and diverse ways people think, learn and experience the world.
Through evidence-based training, resources and collaboration, our Inclusive Practice Development Programme helps organisations, professionals and organisations develop inclusive person-centred practice.
Who we work with
The NEN works across the education system to support a broad community of professionals and organisations—including:
Local Authorities and system leaders
Early years settings, schools and colleges
Educational professionals such as teachers, SENCOs and support staff
Health and social care practitioners involved in supporting learners
What’s changing and what’s staying the same
Our New Name: The Autism Education Trust is now the Neuroinclusive Education Network (NEN) - a name that reflects our broader mission and alignment with the National Autistic Society.
Our Training Programme: Our culture-change Professional Development Programme becomes the Inclusive Practice Development Programme - retaining autism-specialist content while introducing wider neuroinclusive themes.
Our Expertise: Autism remains at the core of our evidence-based approach, strengthened by an inclusive perspective that supports all neurodivergent learners.
Our Network: The NEN is growing, connecting more professionals and promoting a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement that drives neuroinclusive in education forward.
Looking ahead
As part of the National Autistic Society, the NEN will continue to co-produce new training resources with people with lived experience, educators and experts.
Future developments will expand our content to include ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette Syndrome and other neurodivergent profiles, supporting professionals to apply best whole-school inclusive practice.
