Description
The AET Good Autism Practice Full Report and Practitioner Guide present eight principles of good autism practice.
These summarise the ethos, values and practice that should inform inclusive education for all children and young people whilst specifying the distinctive knowledge, teaching approaches required. Eight principles are identified which are linked to the new Ofsted Framework, the SEND Code of Practice and the Teacher Standards. The Guide is designed to support staff in Early Years settings, Schools and Post 16 provision to develop effective practice. The case studies serve to illustrate the eight principles.

This report was first published in 2009 and a second iteration was published with updates in 2019. Since the most recent report was published, the AET has been through a process of redeveloping its Professional Development Programmes. The Programmes currently in place are structured around the four key themes and the eight principles of good autism practice outlined in this report. Some of the language we use across our materials has changed since this report was written and we have evolved through the co-production of our materials. The report will again be updated in the future to reflect this.
